His research topic was "American Nuclear Disarmament Initiative and Its Relevance to US-Japan Alliance (Extended Deterrence)."
His research at JIIA was funded by a fellowship from the Japan Foundation.
Mr. Tonny Dian Effendi (Indonesia) was Lecturer, Department of International Relations, University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
His research topic was "Japan's Public Diplomacy Process."
Mr. Konstantine Tsereteli was Lecturer, Institute of Asia and Africa, Tbilis Free Univeristy / Senior Specialist, Ministry of Defence of Georgia.
His research topic was "East Asian Community and the role of Japan in it."
Dr. Ni Feng (China) was Professor/Assistant Director-General of the Institute of American Studies (IAS) at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Chief of the IAS' Division of American Foreign Policy.
His research topic was "Trilateral Dialogue among China, Japan and America --- from the Second Track to the First Track?" He researched at JIIA on a fellowship from the Japan Foundation.

His research topic was "Overcoming the Reactive State: Japan's Leadership in Promoting East Asian Security Multilateralism."

Prof. Sylvano Dong-E Mahiwo (PHILIPPINES) was Professor, International Relations, Asian Studies Program (Japan Studies), Asian Center, University of the Philippines Dilman."
His research topic was "ASEAN-JAPAN Contemporary Relations --- from Selective Engagement to Comprehensive Japanese Involvement --- with Focus on the Dynamics and Prospective Interface."
Mr. Marat Yerkatovich Nurgaliyev (KAZAKHSTAN) was Research Fellow, Foreign Policy Studies Department, Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
His research topic was "Development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Japanese Diplomacy towards Central Asia.
