CSCAP Structure
Members and Committees
CSCAP was established with research institutes from ten countries as founding members: the five original ASEAN member countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, excluding Brunei), Japan, South Korea, the U.S., Canada (which has since withdrawn), and Australia. Under its Charter, each institute represents its country by forming a Member Committee.
Subsequently, New Zealand (June 1994), Mongolia (June 1996), Vietnam (December 1996), China (December 1996), and the EU (December 1998) officially joined. In June 2000, India (a provisional member since December 1994), Papua New Guinea (now withdrawn), Cambodia, Brunei (December 2001), Myanmar (June 2016), and Laos (May 2018) became new official members.
Taiwan is permitted to participate in working groups as an observer in an individual expert capacity. The Secretariat of CSCAP Japan is operated by the Japan Institute of International Affairs, which is listed as a founding member under the CSCAP Charter.
