The 6th Tokyo Global Dialogue Opening

President Sasae of the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) gave a welcoming address, and referring to this year’s theme, “A Quest for Global Resilience,” said, “This theme conveys a sense of crisis about the diminishing governance fostered within the international community during the post-Cold War era, as well as a strong message that Japan must strive to revive and regenerate this power as a member of the liberal camp.” He then expressed hope that the dialogue would not only include a calm analysis of the current situation and a look into the future, but also a discussion full of meaningful policy proposals from the perspective of what specific measures should be taken to restore resilience of the world as a whole.
