COUNCIL FOR SECURITY COOPERATION IN THE ASIA PACIFIC (CSCAP)
CSCAP Japan Activities
The CSCAP Japan Committee was established in April 1994, and is currently chaired by Amb. Kenichiro Sasae, President and Director-General of the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA). JIIA has acted as CSCAP Japan's secretariat since the latter's establishment and is highly regarded among CSCAP member countries. In recent years, CSCAP Japan has overseen the Study Group on Multilateral Security Governance in Northeast Asia/North Pacific, the Study Group on Water Resources Security, the Study Group on Naval Enhancement, and the Study Group on Regional Security Architecture as co-chair and has played important roles in giving CSCAP momentum.
CSCAP Japan organized the 3rd Meeting of the Study Group on Regional Security Architecture in March 2014, the 18th Meeting of the Study Group on Countering the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Asia Pacific in July 2014, and the 3rd Meeting of the Study Group on Marine Environmental Protection in February 2017. CSCAP Japan also organized the 46th CSCAP Steering Committee Meeting in Tokyo in December 2016, the first such meeting held in Japan for 19 years.
*JIIA is genuinely grateful to the Central Japan Railway Company, The Japan
International Cooperation Foundation (JICF) and other persons concerned
for their cooperation in CSCAP activities.
