Outline
Theme: A Quest for Global Resilience
The year 2024 saw national elections held in dozens of democracies, including Japan and the United States, with confusion marking some of these elections. Given the prospect that 2025 will be even more eventful than 2024, it is tempting to ask the following questions: How will the international community react to the advent of the second Trump administration in the United States? Is the war in Ukraine drawing to a close? Will Europe, shaken by the rise of populism, be able to exercise global leadership? And will the confrontation between the U.S. and China intensify over issues such as the Taiwan Strait and economic security? In these times of turmoil, all the issues confronting world leaders are not uniform in nature.
At the 6th Tokyo Global Dialogue (TGD6), leading experts from Japan and abroad will review the present international situation plagued by frequent conflicts and discuss a way forward in light of the current trends. Under the title “A Quest for Global Resilience,” we will also consider what roles Japan and other major players should fulfill in restoring resilience to the international community.
