The Munich Security Conference

Chief-Executive Director Tomoyuki Yoshida of the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) participated in various sessions at the Munich Security Conference held in Munich from February14 to16, including as a speaker at the session "Alternative Perspectives on Global Order," organized by SOAS, University of London. The conference, founded in 1963, is one of the most prestigious privately organized international security conferences in Europe. It is attended annually by ministers from major Western countries, heads of state and government, ministers, parliamentarians, and key officials from international organizations around the world. From the Japanese government, Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense Kazuhiro Kobayashi, and others participated. This year's main theme focused on the multipolarization of the world, highlighting the tensions between Europe and the US over the war in Ukraine and its potential resolution.
