On April 19, 2024, the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA), in partnership with the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), conducted a public webinar on "Cybersecurity in the Indo-Pacific Region".

The webinar began with a presentation by officials from the U.S. and Japanese governments on their countries' cybersecurity policies and efforts for U.S.-Japan cooperation and public-private cooperation, as well as the outcomes of the U.S.-Japan summit meeting held the previous week. A panel of experts then discussed threats to cyberspace and information space in the Indo-Pacific region, cybersecurity as a part of national security, and issues related to international cooperation and public-private cooperation. In particular, the panelists identified the need to reconsider the interpretation of the Constitution and the strengthening of intelligence as challenges to achieving cybersecurity as outlined in the National Security Strategy. The difficulties of information provision from the private sector and information sharing among nations were also addressed.
