The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) hosted a public webinar on December 20, 2023, inviting Dr. Giulio Pugliese, Lecturer in Japanese Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford as speaker, and Dr. Stephen Nagy, Professor, Department of Politics and International Studies at International Christian University, and JIIA Fellow, as commentator. Mr. Koichiro Matsumoto, Director of Research and Programs at JIIA moderated the session. Dr. Pugliese gave a talk under the title "Europe's Growing Alignment on China with Japan and the United States: Trends and prospects of Japan-Europe security cooperation," with a clear focus on the growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific and how European countries are increasing security cooperation with Japan. After the comments and questions from Dr. Nagy, many on-line participants posted questions to the speaker, and there was a lively exchange of views.
