On December 21, The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) and the Delhi Policy Group (DPG) held an Open Session entitled "Enhancing Japan-India cooperation for FOIP and role of the Quad" as part of the 4th Japan-India Indo-Pacific Forum (Japan-India Track 1.5 Dialogue) co-organized by JIIA and DPG.
Amb. SASAE Kenichiro (President, JIIA) and Amb. H.K. SINGH (Director General, DPG, and former Ambassador of India to Japan) co-moderated the Open Session. The keynote speeches were delivered by H.E. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Dr. S. JAISHANKAR, Minister of External Affairs of India.
Prof. KIKUCHI Tsutomu (Senior Adjunct Fellow, JIIA, and Professor, Aoyama Gakuin University), Mr. NOGUCHI Yasushi (Director General for International Affairs, Ministry of Defense), Amb. Kanwal SIBAL (former Foreign Secretary of India, and former Ambassador to Russia, France, Turkey and Egypt), and Vice Admiral Anil CHOPRA (former Commander-in-Chief, Western Naval Command & Eastern Naval Command, and former Director-General, Indian Coast Guard) discussed international affairs in the Indo-Pacific, the importance of promoting a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP) and cooperating through the Quad framework to ensure regional stability and prosperity, and future cooperation between India and Japan on foreign policy and security issues. A joint statement on the results of the Forum was issued at the end of the session.
