On November 30, 2021, the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA), by introduction of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tokyo, held an online roundtable discussion on the Afghanistan with the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS) and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICA).

Experts from both Japan and Uzbekistan participated in this discussion and exchanged opinions on (1) the new political reality in Afghanistan in the context of the Taliban's assumption of power , (2) bilateral cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan in the Afghan direction.
